What a journey Wicked has been on to become so po-PU-lar! We're as emotional as Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande on their press tour as the wonderful story of female friendship is just weeks away from flying onto the big screen - it's time to start defying gravity as of November 22, 2024!
About Wicked The Movie
It feels like an age since we saw Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth originating our beloved heroines in the Broadway production. It was nominated for ten Tony Awards, winning three, and became the 4th longest-running Broadway show in history, with over 7,500 performances, the show has run for over 20 years. Indeed, the adventures in Oz are as long as the yellow brick road.
Both Broadway queens have praised the film, Menzel saying that it builds on the musical in "so many beautiful ways I never thought possible" and Chensworth stating that she was so "moved, emotional, happy, filled with joy,". It's even had the blessing of the author of the original novel Gregory Maguire.
And if you didn't know the film uses almost no GCI and all of the sparkly details across the land of Oz are hand-crafted under the instruction of the Director Jon M. Chu (In The Heights, Crazy Rich Asians).
When Is The Premier?
Wicked premiered at Sydney's State Theatre on November 3, 2024, with its U.S. release set for November 22, 2024. The sequel, Wicked: Part Two, is already slated to debut on November 21, 2025. As for what's next, the film will premiere in London on Monday, November 18th - prepare for lots of pink and green!
